Sumy State University has signed an agreement on long-term cooperation with the University of Liverpool. The ceremonial signing of agreements between Ukrainian and British universities took place on June 28 within the large-scale international project "Unity Initiative".

24 partnership agreements were signed at the online ceremony. The landmark event between the academic institutions of Ukraine and the United Kingdom was attended by the Rector of the Liverpool University and the Head of International Policy at the University Council (UUK) Professor Dam JANET BIR, Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom Vadym PRYSTAYKO, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Ukraine Melinda Simmons and the authorized representative of the Ukrainian President on the support of education, science and sports Olga BUDNYK.

Cooperation in the format of "universities-brothers" is a unique and most effective model for overcoming the challenges which the universities of Ukraine are facing during martial law. Among the areas of cooperation of SumDU with the University of Liverpool there are joint implementation of educational programs, academic exchanges and academic mobility programs, joint research, access to modern laboratories, online courses and other resources for students, teachers and researchers.

"SumDU is known for the scale of its international activities. The signing of this agreement opens the door for us to one of the most famous and powerful universities in the world. It is important for us that such an agreement is based on strategic and long-term cooperation. We were able to very quickly and clearly assess all the challenges, which the university is facing, and make joint efforts to address current issues in order to provide, in this difficult situation, in particular, high quality educational services for our students", the head of international cooperation of SumDU Konstantin KIRICHENKO said.

Kateryna ZHUK, a student of the SumDU Academic and Reasearch Medical Institute, who is currently in Liverpool within the framework of Summer School, shared her impressions of the cooperation with the University of Liverpool during the event. The girl told about the organization of classes and leisure of school participants, thanked SumDU and the University of Liverpool for the opportunity to continue their studies and gain new useful experience that will be useful in further professional activities.

In the nearest future it is planned to open a joint educational platform, which will be based on the best educational programs of SumDU, developed with the participation of famous British professors. British scientists have already joined the teams of scientific journals of SumDU, it is planned to prepare joint research projects.

"Such an initiative is a sign of support for the Ukrainian educational and scientific community by British universities. In this way, they help us keep the educational front. The name "universities-brothers" once again emphasizes the willingness to help, support and share common values. The cooperation of SumDU with the University of Liverpool is not accidental - universities have a similar profile and strategic vision of development. The choice of SumDU was also influenced by its position in the international rankings - the top British university was looking for the top Ukrainian university. It was a movement towards each other", the rector of SumDU Vasyl KARPUSHA emphasized.
