On 13 April 2025, Russia committed another bloody crime against the civilian population of Ukraine. A missile attack on the Sumy center killed 34 people and wounded 119 persons. Many people are in serious condition. Two SumDU students were among the victims of the insidious enemy.
Some of the SumDU buildings are located in the city center. The aggressor inflicted a great damage on the university buildings. The congress center was completely destroyed. The K2 facility was heavily damaged. Other buildings in the city center were also damaged.
“A terrible day for the people of Sumy and the family of SumDU, perhaps the longest day in my life. Russia has committed another bloody terror. The K2 building is heavily damaged, the SumDU congress center is destroyed. It is the heart of the city, an educational and cultural space, a place of artistic events, forums, conferences… Lives of the townspeople who have been cynically taken away by Russia today. Among them, there are two students of our medical institute. Eternal memory to the victims... Let us remember who the enemy is. Let us remember what we are fighting for. We will rebuild everything. We are stronger!” – commented rector Vasyl KARPUSHA on the terrible event.
Once again, the enemy cynically and deliberately fired ballistic missiles at civilians and infrastructure, trying to break our will and resilience. He did his dark deed on a bright day – Palm Sunday, which is an important day for believers.
The aggressor has no faith, no moral boundaries. The day that should be a symbol of peace and blessing has become a day of grief and unspeakable pain.
We bow our heads in memory of the innocent victims.
