In 2024, the QS company presented the first-ever ranking of European universities. It included higher education institutions from 42 countries that are full members of the European Council. The ranking does not evaluate Russian and Belarusian institutions. In this aspect, Ukraine was represented by 33 universities from 16 oblasts.

According to the QS methodology, a special emphasis is placed on the internationalization of higher education. In particular, the index of foreign applicant diversity was used for the first time. Here, Sumy State University was defined as the top second organization in Ukraine.

The SumDU activity in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals is also highly appreciated. It holds the first position among Ukrainian institutions in terms of research citations. Namely, there was increase in Q1-Q2 publications.

Among all universities, SumDU took the 434th place. Among Eastern European institutions, it held the 51st place. Besides, the 7th position was taken within higher education institutions of Ukraine.
