In cooperation with the foundation “Patients of Ukraine”, Sumy State University received equipment for patients’ rehabilitation. It is a part of the Ukrainian-Swiss project “Rehabilitation of War Trauma”.

In particular, the donated devices include heart training equipment (modern treadmill, stepper, exercise bike), a Hothera monitor, spirometers, a myostimulator for TENS therapy, a verticalizing table and a lift. The donation also included equipment for ergotherapy of patients with motor function disorders, mannequins for the simulation laboratory at the Department of Physical Therapy, Ergotherapy and Sports Medicine.

Currently, the students have been acquainted with technical features of the donated equipment. The new equipment was tested. The gained knowledge will allow to fully join multidisciplinary teams during their internships in healthcare facilities.

According to Yuriy Ataman (the head department), the equipment is valuable not only for the educational process and preclinical training of physical therapists. It can also significantly expand a list of services that the unit provides to Sumy residents. Today, many citizens need long-term rehabilitation after combat injuries to the musculoskeletal system, central nervous system, peripheral nerves and major vessels. For war trauma patients, an individual approach must be used. Thanks to its strong human resources and modern facilities, Sumy State University offers comprehensive long-term rehabilitation services for patients in traumatology, neurology and cardiopulmonology.
