The Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases with Epidemiology of the Medical Institute of SumDU Mykola Chemych spoke about the symptoms of the COVID-19 virus and its precautionary measures on the air of “CTC” TV channel.

He emphasized the need of strict compliance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health and the measures provided by the Ukrainian quarantine to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.

The specialist noted that the main way of infection is a respiratory drip, meaning getting a dangerous infection through the air passage. In addition, there is a risk of contamination through contact with surfaces where the virus may be present, including personal gadgets. So, the specialist advises to reduce the use of them in the street and in a crowd. Also, in rooms with other people, it is necessary to wear a mask, gloves (if possible - glasses that fit tight to the face).

“The effectiveness of the mask is short: from 2 to 4 hours, - Mykola Chemych emphasized, - that’s why it must be disposed of and put on a new one. Gloves are also non-reusable. "

The specialist advises to adhere to the quarantine requirements, minimize being in crowded places. On the street or in rooms with other people, keep a distance, after visiting the store or other public place it is mandatory to wash your hands and apply special solutions, including gadgets.

As an infectious disease specialist reported, the symptoms of coronavirus infection are initially similar to usual viral respiratory infection (VRI): weakness, headache, joint pain. Then there is a lesion of the upper air passage: pharyngitis, tonsillitis. The temperature is rising fast: 38 degrees Celsius and higher. After 8-10 days there is an increase in pulmonary insufficiency, after 12 days there is a reverse development or severe acute respiratory failure, when a person can’t breathe independently, but only with the aid of special medical equipment.

"Special ambulance crews have been set up in the region to deliver patients suspected of having coronavirus infection to the hospital," - Mykola Chemych said. - In Sumy for admission of such patients the basic medical institutions are: for adults - the Regional Clinical Infectious Hospital, for children - the Regional Children's Hospital. "

Also, according to Mykola Chemych, 1st,4th and 5th city hospitals are being constructed accordingly. In Sumy region, all infectious departments are ready to receive patients with coronavirus.
