On May 16th, the scientific community of Ukraine celebrates a professional holiday – the Science Day. Sumy State University traditionally celebrates the holiday with significant success in scientific activity.

In particular, in 2020, 58 projects of SumDU scientists received state funding in the amount of UAH 23.6 million, which is the largest indicator for the years of the university's existence and the seventh indicator among all higher education institutions of Ukraine. The young scientists’ teams currently perform 24 state budget research works, which is the first indicator among Ukrainian universities.

In 2019, 350 articles were published in editions indexed by the Scopus database and 250 – by the Web of Science. The university remains the leader among the HEIs of Ukraine in the number of full-time scientific and scientific-pedagogical employees who have 5 and more publications in Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection editions. Today there are 290 of them.

The university's h-index increased by 18% according to the Scopus database and by 15% according to the Web of Science. As per this indicator, SumDU enters the TOP-10 universities of Ukraine. In 2019, the university received an award from Clarivate Analytics, which owns the Web of Science database, in the category "Science Influence Leader: all fields".

325 scientific articles were published in 2019 with the participation of students. Following the results of the second tour of the All-Ukrainian competition of student's scientific works students of SumDU received 105 prize-winning places that once again provided the first indicator among HEIs of Ukraine.

Last year, more than 1,000 scientific contracts were executed for enterprises, institutions, and organizations. The university also fulfilled 152 international agreements for the development and manufacture of scientific and technical products and research, 8 university-wide international scientific grants, in particular, under the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme and 6 grants of the President of Ukraine to support the research of young scientists. Almost 700 employees were involved in this work, including more than 200 students.

An important argument of the scientific attractiveness of the university is the volume of admission to postgraduate studies. Last year, 420 postgraduates joined SumDU. The scientific elite of the institution also enriched by 12 doctors and 38 Ph.D.’s.

To celebrate the occasion, in accordance with rector’s order, the best scientific and scientific-pedagogical workers, employees of structural subdivisions who provide scientific activity and training of scientific personnel were honored. SumDU Cultural and Artistic Center congratulated the winners and all employees and students of the university with a concert program prepared in a video format.
