As part of a project initiated by the delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, on May 14th-15th, the EU Information Center, based at SumDU, organized a series of debates and training, which discussed current trends in the labor market, the implementation of educational and business opportunities with the EU support.

The organizers invited active student youth, representatives of public organizations and businesses, and civil servants to participate in the events, which for the first time this year were held online.

On the first day, there was a panel discussion "Professional Development and European Integration", moderated by Yurii Petrushenko, Coordinator of the EU Information Center in Sumy, the Head of the Department of International Economic Relations of SumDU.

The speakers of the event shared their views on key competencies in the EU labor market, discussed incentive systems, mechanisms for creating new jobs, youth employment guarantees in the European Union, the conditions for participation in the European volunteer programs.

"Today the EU's priorities include investing in human capital assets, science, and technology, environmental protection, economic freedom and competition," - Denys Chernikov said, a European integration expert.

The participants of the discussion noted that nowadays Ukrainian employers more often consider the priorities of the EU when selecting staff: critical thinking, ability to make decisions in difficult situations, creativity, teamwork, multitasking. Proficiency in languages is also an advantage.

Doctor of Economics, Professor of SumDU Taras Savchenko spoke about the peculiarities of business development in the EU countries, mechanisms for finding opportunities to implement business ideas in Ukraine through EU programmes.

During the EU Career Day, online training on soft skills took place:

  • "Modern information technology for easy everyday life, fast career and successful business";
  • "Effective communication and public speaking";
  • "Volunteering in the European Union as a step towards building a career."

The EU Career Day finished with an open discussion within the Civic Engagement Club meeting. Online. "Where to build your career: in Ukraine or/and abroad?", Moderated by Hanna Shvindina, the Head of the Department of Management at SumDU.

For your information. The EU Career Day is implemented within the project "Information Support of EU Networks in Ukraine". The event takes place annually in 15 cities of Ukraine for the last four years. There are series of public events where representatives of the EU networks and other participants discuss the implementation of the EU standards and practices in Ukraine, participation in the EU programmes to develop new business and educational opportunities.
