On December 10th, Sumy State University hosted a meeting on the development and implementation of organizational and technical measures for energy efficiency to reduce energy consumption by budget institutions of the region, headed by the Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration Serhii Pakholchuk.

The representatives of the Department of Housing and Communal Services and Energy Efficiency of Sumy Regional State Administration, the Department of Infrastructure of Sumy City Council, scientists, and the university administration were invited to participate in the discussion.

The Acting Rector of SumDU Anatoliy Vasylyev noted that the formula of the university development is a priority of science in combination with active international activity and innovative technologies. SumDU research is mostly interdisciplinary, which allows for research in several turn-key industries, and the price-quality ratio makes SumDU research competitive in the Ukrainian and international markets. At the same time, the university helps in the development of our region and is ready to expand cooperation, including with budget-funded institutions.

Mykola Sotnyk, the Director of the Research Institute of Energy Efficient Technologies of SumDU, presented to the participants the technical developments of the Research Institute for heat, electricity and water supply of buildings and structures, heat supply, and water monitoring systems, which have been successfully implemented on university campuses. The relevant projects of SumDU scientists are ready to develop at the request of institutions and organizations of Sumy and the region.

Denys Kurbatov, the Head of the Research Department of SumDU, presented the scientific and technical potential of SumDU in the field of energy efficiency. Among them are the Heat supply schemes of Hlukhiv, Sumy, and Konotop, developed by SumDU scientists, approved by the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine. Apart from that, he highlighted that in addition to technical developments, measures are being taken to formulate energy-saving policies both at the university and abroad.

During the discussion of ways to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption by the budget institutions of the Sumy region, SumDU representatives put forward several proposals. Among them: to spread the practice of implementing the "System of short-term forecasting and monitoring of heat consumption" in the maximum possible number of budget-funded institutions of the region, primarily municipal institutions of regional subordination; to start a pilot project on the implementation of the "Automated system of monitoring of electricity consumption" with the definition of budget-funded institutions of the region, which are involved in it in the first place; to intensify the process of developing the District Heating Schemes of individual settlements of Sumy region, in particular the cities of Romny, Shostka, Okhtyrka and Trostianets; to organize negotiations with JSC "Ukrtransgaz", gas and electricity distribution companies, on the implementation of installing turboexpander units at pressure throttling units in gas networks in the pilot project, in order to generate additional "green" electricity, etc.

The Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration Serhii Pakholchuk noted the productive work of SumDU on the development of energy-efficient technologies, stressed the importance of these issues in the context of decentralization and the creation of united territorial communities.

"The change in the administrative system requires a review of existing heat supply schemes, development programs, their improvement in order to save energy so that the residents of local communities pay less for utilities," - Serhii Paholchuk said.

The participants of the meeting agreed on further cooperation in energy efficiency, in particular, solving environmental problems, reducing utility rates, improving the quality of service to the population of the region.

Based on the results of the meeting, it is planned to draw up a protocol, where the format of joint work will be processed, which will allow using the scientific developments of SumDU both at the level of the region and each individual Amalgamated Territorial Community (ATC).
