On March 25th, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine announced the results of the state certification of higher education institutions in terms of their scientific (scientific and technical) activities.
Sumy State University entered the highest qualification group A in four areas and is a leader among higher education institutions of Ukraine.
In total, 135 Ukrainian universities that passed the respective attestation procedure were assessed in terms of the efficiency of scientific activity.
The state certification of HEIs was carried out, in accordance with the Procedure approved by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 22.08.2018 № 652, in 7 scientific areas: "Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine", "Military Sciences and National Security", "Humanities and Arts", “Social Sciences”, "Biology and Health Care", "Mathematics and Natural Sciences", "Technical Sciences".
The evaluation was carried out in accordance with a special methodology, which includes the evaluation of indicators of scientific activity related to the financing of research and development, staff training, the level of publication of scientific results. In addition, the experts assessed the novelty and practical value of scientific results, integration into the world educational and scientific space, development prospects, etc. According to the results of the expert evaluation of scientific achievements and prospects of development of higher education institutions, based on the attestation assessment, the universities are assigned to one of the qualification groups for each scientific field: А, Б, В.
Entering the A and Б groups considers: basic funding for research; the right to be included in the register of research institutions supported by the state; the opportunity to participate in the infrastructure projects of the National Research Fund of Ukraine, etc.
Group A in the scientific field includes institutions of higher education, research, and development of which is carried out at the world level of development of science and technology, have important national or global importance.
SumDU passed the certification in 5 areas and confirmed the high level of scientific activity, entering qualification group A in four areas: "Humanities and Arts", "Social Sciences", "Mathematics and Natural Sciences", "Technical Sciences" and group B - in the field of "Biology and Health".
The next state certification is scheduled for five years.
