On 11 October 2023, the NovaГазета periodical (for the Ukrainian diaspora in New York) published an article by Raisa STOIAN. She is a senior lecturer of the Department of Journalism and Philology of Sumy State University. The article reports on activities of university volunteers during the full-scale Russian invasion into Ukraine.
The material “Sumy Oblast: How Volunteers Hold the Rear on the Ukrainian-Russian Border” discusses activities of SumDU students and employees. They form a large volunteer unit helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They belong to the Dobrobat volunteer battalion and are donors of the regional blood service center.
“It is noteworthy that students, nurtured by the university community, after graduating from Sumy State University, continue their non-profit motivated activities – no matter how talented they are in life. Philanthropy for them is already a need, a way of thinking, a way of life,” – commented Olha TYSIACHNYK (the coordinator of the SumDU volunteer movement and the head of the Social Work Department).
