On 10 November, an extended online meeting of representatives from Sumy State University and University of Liverpool took place within Twinning Initiative.

The University of Liverpool is one of the top 20 UK institutions with high international rankings (ARWU: 101-150; THE: 178; QS: 189). It is famous for scientific schools and extremely powerful human potential. That is confirmed by the fact that 9 professors of this university were Nobel Prize laureates at different times.

In his introductory speech, Vasyl KARPUSHA (the SumDU rector) thanked his British colleagues for their great support in the educational and scientific sphere.

“Colleges from the University of Liverpool share all their accumulated experience with us. They do it openly, with a sincere soul, understanding that we are in conditions of the martial law. For the entire history of our university, this is the largest project as it covers a whole range of directions and a large number of participants. We have achieved significant results in building a concrete and multi-level partnership. Now, we have a big responsibility to implement the cooperation results. This is a unique chance for our university and project participants. It is important each of us feels responsibility and opportunities this cooperation provides. It is an impact for our own professional development,” – noted Vasyl KARPUSHA.

Ihor POTAPOV (a professor, the Twinning Initiative coordinator from the University of Liverpool) expressed his support for Ukraine and Sumy State University in this difficult time. It will acquire more practical significance and will cover more directions. Also, he was grateful to Vasyl KARPUSHA and Kostiantyn KYRYCHENKO for active interaction.

“Next year we plan to form new project applications, prepare joint publications, conduct trainings. We consider joint scientific management of theses as a promising area of cooperation. We hope for successful implementation of new powerful projects with our British partners,” – said Kostiantyn KYRYCHENKO.

Activities between SumDU and University of Liverpool include cooperation in a wide range of areas: summer schools, student exchanges, teacher training, online educational resources, access to global databases. Colleagues from sister universities are also working together on a number of projects in brand management, marketing, digitization, library cooperation, etc.

The solemn meeting part involved handing over certificates to scholarship holders for successful internships and professional development.
