On 21 December 2023, Sumy State University held an Education Quality Board meeting. The main issues concerned organizational and methodological support for implementing educational programs and developing academic mobility.

Inna SHKOLNYK (the vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work) informed about inspection of the organizational and methodological support for curricula implementation in the 2023-2024 academic year.

She noted the university has formed a regulatory framework and appropriate curricula support. A systematic check of compliance with quality standards is being conducted. Readiness of departments for the new academic year was monitored based on the criteria for accreditation of educational programs of the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education. Taking into account the inspection results, the Quality Board identified a number of recommendations for eliminating drawbacks and improving curricula quality.

Considering the mentioned issue, Vasyl KARPUSHA (the SumDU rector) emphasized that compliance with the quality criteria of education, systematic and responsible work of all persons involved in the educational organization are a key to the successful university development, strengthening its authority in the national and global educational environment.

Kostyantyn KYRYCHENKO (the head of the International Cooperation Department) informed participants about the current state and main tasks of academic mobility development at Sumy State University. He noted that the development of international academic mobility is one of the Bologna process priorities. Accordingly, it concerns the European education area, a guarantee of international integration and recognition of university curricula. Moreover, it is an effective tool for attracting additional intellectual, material, technical and financial resources.

Despite challenges of the global pandemic and martial law, in 2023 the university managed to provide a number of academic mobility opportunities for students and employees. It attracted a record amount of cash from international funds and partner institutions abroad for SumDU participants.

Effective organizational work on international academic mobility is carried out at the BiEM Institute, the IFSK Faculty, the Law Institute and the TeSET Faculty. The best practices of mobility transfer are demonstrated at the IFSK Faculty.

In 2023, there was a virtual mobility increase based on Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). For the first time, SumDU students were involved in European microcredit certificate courses. This is gaining more importance in the European space of higher education and the world in general.

Based on the discussion results, the Quality Board adopted a number of measures to involve the university in international academic mobility programs and organizational support for their implementation.

“It is impossible to consider academic mobility purely as an international activity, since it is the internationalization of the educational process. So, it is one of indicators of education quality,” – stressed Anatolii VASYLIEV (the Quality Board head).

In addition, the catalogue of selective educational disciplines of the general training cycle (ZP-catalogue) was approved at the meeting.

The Quality Board also approved a number of recommendations to the SumDU Academic Board. That deals with changes to educational programs, curricula and certificate program “IT Law”. Also, the certificate program “Military Law” was approved.
