SumDU scientists have developed a unique medical device for histological and cytological examinations

This is a joint development of scientists of the Research and Training Center for Complex Engineering "SumDUChemTech" (Department of Chemical Engineering, the Faculty of Technical Systems and Energy Efficient Technologies) and the Department of Pathology of the Medical Institute. Academic adviser of the development is the Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Yevhen Kuzenko.

Ergonomic device is used for staining of histological sections. With its help, the studied cells acquire more contrasting color, which contributes to the effectiveness of their examination under a microscope and, accordingly, the diagnosis of diseases in histology and cytology. The medical novelty is made by the use of the acid-resistant materials and has a modern design.

The high quality of automatic staining provides ease of use, efficient load distribution to the laboratory and reproducibility of results.

The developed prototype combines flexibility, speed and opens new horizons in research automation. Due to the large number of stations (24 units) the device can work on several staining protocols. The use of up to 32 glasses, convenient color PC-screen displaying all programmes and the accompanying information for exact adjustment guarantee efficiency of staining, safety and speed. Each action of the device is accompanied by sound signals in order to make it convenient for an expert to work with devices. The software and the device itself are protected by domestic patents.

In future, it is planned to improve and modernize the device by installing a touch control unit, an improved filtration system and other useful functions, according to which the Ukrainian medical development will not be inferior to modern world counterparts.
