Recently the university received a positive response from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) regarding grant support to the Research Center for Regional Security for 2020. The financial support of 6,000 Euro will go to the Center's institutional support in conducting regional security studies as well as the level of NATO support; information and advisory support for researchers, students, and everyone interested in security and NATO. Project manager – Ph.D. in Political Science Mykola Nazarov.

The main objectives of the Center within the project are: 1) conducting research on regional security and monitoring the attitude of Sumy region community towards the EU and NATO; 2) development of training courses on security and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine; 3) provide access to NATO multimedia materials; 4) organizing public informative events such as briefings, conferences, and seminars on regional security and NATO; 5) providing students, postgraduates and scientists with useful information to assist them in research; 6) coordinating with the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Ukraine and prompt provision interested people with information on NATO programs (e.g. “Science for Peace and Security”, scholarships, seminars, workshops).

The university grant collaboration with NATO lasts since 2016, which has attracted additional financial, organizational and expert resources for the development of the security research at the university, and highlights SumDU status as a reliable partner in the implementation of international projects.
