On October 6th-9th, the first stage of the international school "Media Literacy in the Regions of Ukraine" took place on the basis of the Department of Journalism and Philology of SumDU, which is implemented with the financial support of the German Embassy in Ukraine.

The project partners are the public organizations “Interlink Academy” (Germany) and “MediaCompas” (Ukraine) in the Sumy region.

The main goal of the project is to teach trainers in media literacy, to improve their knowledge and skills in conducting media education workshops.

"For the second year in a row, we are implementing the project "Media Literacy in the Regions of Ukraine", - says the project manager of the Interlink Academy Andrea Kambergs. "This year, in a pandemic, we had to change the format of the training a bit: we combine the work of participants online and their personal meetings in classrooms to achieve our educational goals and not violate quarantine requirements."

For four days, school participants, including teachers from different parts of the Sumy region, studied sources of information, fact-checking, learned to detect manipulation and propaganda, developed critical thinking.

The project trainers are journalist, researcher, and editor of the Deutsche Welle Academy Eric Albrecht (Germany), local TV reporter, SumDU graduate Tetiana Mostipan and a public activist Anton Protsenko.

Later on, the participants will have a remote stage, when they will independently develop and conduct their own training in their localities.

In November, participants and coaches will meet again in Sumy to continue training, summarize, and agree on further cooperation.
