The students of the Computer Science Department, Section of the Information Technologies of SumDU joined the competition "Become an IT specialist” for schoolchildren as mentors, which started on October 21st.

Volodymyr Nahornyi, the Head of SumDU IT school “IT4Teens”, Senior Lecturer of the Computer Science Department, coordinates the work of student mentors.

The competition is being held for the sixth time, and this year in online mode due to quarantine restrictions, with the support of the CodeClubs, Sumy IT companies, Sumy State University, and the Department of Education and Science of Sumy Regional State Administration.

According to Vira Shendryk, the Head of the Information Technology Design Section of the Computer Science Department, the purpose of the competition is to popularize IT, majors, introduce children to the perspective and interesting profession of a programmer or an IT specialist.

The students of 2-11 grades of 9 schools of Sumy and Sumy district take part in the competition. This year's competition works topic is online learning. 27 projects were selected after the first stage of the competition. The participants are to implement the project on any school subject in the form of a game, a simulator, a test, or an exam, etc., combining all these with programming. They must individually develop the code of their own project, and the mentoring students provide consulting support of the final process of the task so that the works meet the criteria of the competition.

The participants must complete the competition work and send it to the jury by October 28th. The winners of the competition in different age categories will be announced online on November 30th.
