On January 20th, Tetiana Vasylyeva, the Director of Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management, and Yurii Petrushenko, the Head of the Department of International Economic Relations, took part in the “Learning Cities” international webinar organized by the South Korean Association of Cities.

A year ago, Tetiana Vasylyeva took part in a study visit to the Republic of Korea, where she got acquainted with the practical results of implementation of the "learning cities" concept.

This year, SumDU scientists have already shared their own experiences in the field of lifelong learning, including approaches to the implementation of the "third" mission of the university, which is a positive impact on the social and economic environment of its operation, the introduction of the mentoring, innovative dual learning experience, the introduction of “voucher of professional development” as a system of skills accumulation, creation of non-formal education programs in a pandemic, involvement of employers in the development of such programs, etc.

The participants of the webinar agreed to continue cooperation on the popularization of the concept of learning cities and the scientific foundation of effective ways of its implementation in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For your information:

The UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities was established by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning in accordance with the Beijing Declaration (2013). Its goal is to assist communities in empowering individuals with lifelong learning and, as a result, social cohesion and economic growth in cities, regions, and countries. The network helps to develop a dialogue between cities in matters of policy, their mutual learning, promotes the establishment of ties and partnerships, provides development of capacity and incentives.

The member cities of the network receive unique opportunities to improve lifelong learning through political dialogue and mutual learning, the development of partnerships, and the dissemination of progress in implementing their development plans through UNESCO information channels. South Korean cities are world leaders in the implementation of the concept of learning cities.

Last year, with the assistance of SumDU scientists, an application was prepared for Sumy to join the network of learning cities. The entry is expected in 2021.
