On May 21st, the Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Yuliia Laputina visited Sumy State University as a part of her working trip to the Sumy Region. During the visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine and Sumy State University by Yuliia Laputina and SumDU Rector Vasyl Karpusha.

According to the Memorandum, the Ministry and SumDU plan to work together to resolve the problems of veterans, promote the dissemination of information on the rights and social guarantees for veterans and their families, make the most of available opportunities for retraining of combatants during the anti-terrorist operation (ATO), for civilian majors in demand in the labor market. In particular, it is planned to develop and implement educational programmes, short-term courses, consulting support, conducting joint educational, sports events, and socio-psychological training on the basis of SumDU, etc.

The Minister visited the University Hospital, where she got acquainted with the diagnostic and rehabilitation base and the potential for treatment programmes for ATO veterans. At the Palace of Student Sports, Yuliia Laputina inspected the conditions for organizing sports and mass events for veterans.

During her stay on the main campus, the Minister laid flowers to the Memorial to the fallen student-soldier, got acquainted with the informational educational and scientific resources of SumDU library, with the unique technological capabilities of the “Ulab” virtual and augmented reality research laboratory, gave a lecture for students of the majors "Law", "Psychology" and "Journalism" on the topic "Semantic war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine: tools, means, experience".

Rector of SumDU Vasyl Karpusha noted that the university has wide opportunities to implement the ideas and projects of the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, expressed hope for fruitful cooperation.

"I am pleasantly impressed by the potential of Sumy State University, a professional and motivated team that develops various areas of activity. I am glad that the university pays great attention to the issues of assistance to veterans, military servants, defenders of Ukraine. On the part of the Ministry, I am sure we will have fruitful communication”, - Yuliia Laputina stressed.
