Sumy State University, Lviv Polytechnic National University, and the International Association for Technological Development and Innovations organized the International Conference "Design, Simulation, Manufacturing: The Innovation Exchange" (DSMIE-2021), held in Lviv on June 8-11.

The conference partners were the Technical University of Košice (Slovakia), the Kielce University of Technology (Poland), the University of West Bohemia (Czech Republic), the Poznan University of Technology (Poland), the “InnovativeFET” Association of Innovative Technologies (Croatia) and Robotics Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This year's conference was held in a mixed format. The event brought together almost 50 offline participants and more than 300 participants from around the world who joined the conference using remote technologies. In general, the conference was attended by the representatives of the leading universities, research institutions, and industrial companies from 20 countries. This confirmed not only the international status of the DSMIE-2021 conference, but also its global importance for the development of engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, and chemical technology.

The arrangement of the plenary and thematic sections added ease and convenience for each participant of the conference. The 3 invited speakers addressed at the conference – the world-renowned scientists in the field of engineering from universities included in the world rankings, namely: Vitalii Pasichnyk (the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, Ukraine), Katarzyna Antosz (Rzeszow University of Technology, Poland), Alper Uysal (Yildiz Technical University, Turkey). They presented the results, achievements, innovative developments, and trends of further research, as well as proposals for cooperation.

45 thematic reports and 55 posters confirmed the high scientific level of the conference. The posters can be viewed at the link: https://dsmie.sumdu.edu.ua/schedule/posters.html

The full-text articles have been published in two volumes in Advances in Design, Simulation and Manufacturing IV series Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering by the world-famous Springer Nature Publishing House (Switzerland), which is indexed by the Scopus database and the Web of Science Core Collection. The content can be viewed at the link: https://dsmie.sumdu.edu.ua/schedule/proceedings.html

As part of the conference to promote current trends and innovations in engineering, a "DSMIE Summer School" was held, which was attended by more than 40 students and postgraduates. Thanks to the assistance of the International Association for Technological Development and Innovations, young scientists had free access to all sections of the conference, as well as to 340 full-text articles published in the conference proceedings for the period of 2018-2021.

Sumy State University, National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" and the International Association of Technological Development and Innovations actively support the latest trends and implement the world's leading technologies.

As the chairman of the international conference DSMIE-2021, the Head of the Department "Technology of Mechanical Engineering, Machines and Tools" of SumDU, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Vitalii Ivanov noted: "A solid partnership has laid the groundwork for such a large-scale and important scientific and practical forum that unites the world science and industry".

The organizers and participants of the 4th International Conference "Design, Simulation, Manufacturing: The Innovations Exchange" (DSMIE-2021) are confident that they have been able to create a strong basis for qualitative change and adaptation of modern engineering for today's challenges.
