The students from Bingham University (Nigeria) took part in the international online course “Cyber Security Economics”, developed and conducted by the lecturers of the Academic and Research Institute of Business, Economics and Management of Sumy State University.

On July 1, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Nigeria, Valerii KIRDODA, at the meeting at the Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria, forwarded the representatives of Bingham University the certificates of successful completion of the online course by their students.

Thirty-five students of the Bingham University completed the online training in cybersecurity economics. The course consists of eight modules. Within this programme, the students learned about the risks of cybersecurity, the ways to prevent network attacks and fraud, data protection, as well as the psychological aspects of the digital economy.

SumDU coordinators of the project “Cyber Security Economics” are Vice-Director for coordination of cooperation with foreign institutions and work with international students, Academic and Research Institute of Business, Economics and Management, Dr.Tetyana MAYBORODA (project coordinator), and the Head of the Department of Economic Cybernetics, e-course guarantor, Olha KUZMENKO.

The team of SumDU lecturers consists of Olena PAKHNENKO, Victoriia BOZHENKO, Serhii MYNENKO, Kostiantyn HRYTSENKO, Inna TIUTIUNNYK and Iryna DIDENKO.

On behalf of Bingham University, the project was coordinated by Misal DABURI, Head of the Information and Protocol Office (in past: Coordinator of Cooperation between Bingham University and SumDU and Coordinator of the University Development Office) and Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Abayomi AVUJOLA.

Tetyana MAYBORODA, the coordinator of the project “Cyber Security Economics”, said that the online course for Nigerian students was developed by SumDU lecturers at the request of Bingham University, as this issue is highly relevant to them. In general, cooperation between Sumy and Nigerian higher education institutions started in May 2019, after the visit of the Rector of Bingham University to SumDU. The cooperation agreement and a number of additional agreements in the relevant areas were signed during the visit.

According to Olha KUZMENKO, the Head of the Department of Economic Cybernetics, Nigerian students got interested in the information obtained during the e-course and expressed a willingness to continue their studies at SumDU Master's degree programme in “Economic Cybernetics”.

The importance of cooperation between Ukrainian and Nigerian universities was confirmedby the fact that the ceremony of awarding the certificates of successful completion of the course was reported by theleading Nigeria media.

Currently, negotiations with the other educational institutions worldwide on cooperation with SumDU within the “Cyber Security Economics” project are conducted.
