On May 27, Sumy State University hosted an online roundtable discussion on "Best Practices of Decentralization: The Experience of EU Countries for Ukraine".

The event was organized within the framework of the educational project ERASMUS-JMO-2021-HEI-TCH-RSCH -101047645 - "EULOCDEM: Local Democracy: Best European Practices for Ukraine", co-financed by the EU Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture Jean Monnet's Erasmus + module (https://cutt.ly/bJewdb6).

The speakers of the round table acquainted the participants with the experience of EU countries in decentralization with implementation and dissemination in Ukraine.

Elena NASSEN, a representative of the Bilzen community in Limburg (Belgium), spoke about the peculiarities of the organization of local self-government in Belgium on the example of the community in which she lives. The speaker focused on the tools of local democracy and the mechanisms of their application and focused on assistance to Ukrainians who left Ukraine for Belgium during the military aggression.

Andriy STASIV, Deputy Mayor of Stryj, Lviv Region, shared his experience of decentralization on the example of Stryj Territorial Community, told about innovations introduced in the unification and integration of communities in Stryj TG about the problems facing the community through the war.

Anton AVKSENTIEV, an expert of the CO "Analytical Center for Democracy Observatory", Candidate for Political Science, identified Ukraine's challenges in decentralization during the war.
