On July 21, the final meeting was held as part of the international virtual academic mobility "Media in the global and European context" between Sumy State University and Johann Gutenberg University (Mainz, Germany).

The participants of the program were students, postgraduates, and teachers of the department of journalism and philology from Sumy and the department of audiovisual arts from Mainz. In total there were more than 70 people.

The program lasted almost three months. During this time, the participants attended weekly lectures and master classes from Ukrainian and German teachers, experts in the field of journalism, communicated with each other, and also worked in groups on joint Instagram projects.

The lecturers from Germany were the famous documentarian Katia SHUPP, junior professor Jessica KUNERT, as well as the German mass media personality, author of the book "Instagram Journalism" Selina BETTENDORF. From the Ukrainian side, the associate professor of the Department of Journalism and Philology of Sumy State University, the expert of Pylyp Orlyk  Institute for Democracy Alla YAROVA and the teacher Raisa STOYAN, a political scientist Mykola DAVIDIUK, the reporter of "Radio Liberty" Roman PAGULYCH shared their experience in the media sphere. They discussed issues of press freedom, alternative forms of journalism, economic aspects of journalism, trust in the media. Considerable attention was paid to the coverage of Russian aggression in Ukraine in the world press.

During the last meeting, Ukrainian and German students and graduate students presented joint Instagram projects. The topics of the works turned out to be quite multivarious - the participants of the program talked about Ukrainian and German cuisine, traditions, hobbies, compared the media of the two countries. However, most of the projects related to war stories, in which Ukrainian students became participants or witnesses.

"Cooperation with German colleagues is new experience for me. It was interesting to learn the process of teaching lessons for journalists at a foreign university, to compare it with teaching classes in our country. I was pleasantly surprised by the openness of Mainz University teachers. I am grateful to the organizers for the opportunity to take part in the international project", the student-journalist Artem KOROL said.

German colleagues note that cooperation is extremely important for them because in this way they can learn more about the events in Ukraine and show solidarity with Sumy State University and all the people of Ukraine. It is hoped that the program "Media within the global and European context" is only the first page in the history of joint academic cooperation between Sumy State University and Johann Gutenberg University.

"Honestly, we are satisfied with the level and form of such international cooperation. I was personally pleasantly impressed by the students - their professional level of work. However, this is only the beginning: we are already planning the spring semester of the next academic year and the conduct of joint scientific research", - Volodymyr SADIVNYCHIY concluded, Head of the Department of Journalism and Philology of Sumy State University.
