Modern education is impossible without international experience, and SumDU students have suitable opportunities for their professional and personal development. One of these students is Daryna PETROVCHUK. She shared her experience of interning in Spain.

The path to international internship

Daryna is a 4th year student majoring in International Economic Relations. The student told us why she chose this specialty: “I was interested in global processes, trade and economic policies of different countries, but most of all I was fascinated by their culture and history”.

The internship took place during her 3rd year at the University of Almeria (Spain) as part of the Erasmus+ program. The girl recalls her first impressions of Spain: “The sun, the palm trees, the smiling people – it was something truly incredible!” However, some aspects were surprising: “I was amazed that every day shops and institutions close for siesta. It was hard to get used to”.

Studying abroad: challenges and peculiarities

Studying in Spain was different from the Ukrainian system. “In Almeria, there were more practical assignments, and the grading largely depended on exams, not just work during the semester,” – notes Daryna. She also emphasized that teachers often used real business cases and encouraged students to work in teams.

One of the program highlights for Daryna was the national fair, where students from different countries presented the culture of their nations. “It was a real celebration of unity and diversity!” – she says.

Advice for students who dream of internship

Daryna is convinced that every student should take advantage of the opportunity for international mobility. She advises:

  • Don’t be afraid to try: Even if it seems like there are few chances, it’s worth a try;
  • Prepare documents in advance: You should take care of all necessary papers in advance and improve your English;
  • Be open to new things: Other cultures can be surprising, but it’s a great experience;
  • Prepare for difficulties: Adaptation can take time, especially language adaptation, but that’s part of growth.

“I hope that my experience will inspire students to try themselves in international programs. It’s an incredible opportunity to broaden your horizons!” – concludes Daryna.
