SumDU representatives took part in the first module of a large-scale educational initiative aimed at strengthening the institutional capacity of Ukrainian higher education institutions.

The Academic Managers Professional Development Program is a unique initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, which is implemented by the British Council within the joint project “Improving Higher Education in Ukraine for Results”. It is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the World Bank.

On 7-10 October 2025, the SumDU team underwent intensive training in Kyiv at Mariupol State University. The university was represented by: Ivan KOZII (vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work), Alina VYSOCHYNA (head of the Department of Strategic Analysis and Planning of Personnel Development), Yurii VOLK (dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies), Viktoriia PETRASHENKO (deputy director of the National Institute of Information Technology for Educational and Methodological Work), Yaryna SAMUSEVYCH (head of the Department of Business Processes).

The first program module is dedicated to the university role in social transformations. This topic is gaining particular importance in modern challenges.

Over four days, participants worked on key issues of university autonomy, good governance, interaction with employers. The program combines theoretical foundations with practical tools, analysis of European and national policies with the best domestic practices.

A feature of training is the team work format. Participants do not just acquire new knowledge, but develop specific tools for their university: from the institution’s profile to development strategy and plan for institutional changes.

The program is designed for six ECTS credits and includes four full-time modules, including “field work” and online mentoring support. The training will end with defense of the institutional change project at an international conference.

The SumDU participation in this program is an important step in development of the university management competencies. It will help to respond more effectively to today’s challenges and implement strategic institution goals.
