Sumy State University is actively introducing innovative digital resources into the educational process of training specialists in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and sports medicine.
The university has become an example of modern education transformation in rehabilitation by effectively integrating the international Physiopedia Plus platform into its curricula.
The partnership between Sumy State University and Physiopedia Plus as of 2022 has become much broader than simply providing access to online courses. The platform content has been systematically integrated into the educational process of the Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Sports Medicine of the Medical Institute. Students use Physiopedia Plus as an integral part of their education, gaining knowledge based on modern evidence-based practice.
As noted by Professor Yurii ATAMAN (department head), training physical therapy specialists is a complex and demanding process that requires use of modern educational standards and resources. Physiopedia Plus provides access to an up-to-date international knowledge base, which is especially important in absence of a national standard information resource that is fully adapted to modern approaches.
As part of collaboration, new educational courses have been developed, including the elective course “Clinical Management of Rehabilitation for Sports Injuries” and the compulsory course “Physical Therapy for Injuries and Multiple Traumas”. These courses meet urgent needs of the regional healthcare system and prepare students for real-life challenges in their professional activities.
The platform has courses in Ukrainian, which lets students effectively learn complex clinical topics without a language barrier. Also, students and teachers actively use Physiopedia Plus for self-study, getting certificates, and improving their skills.
Integration of this resource promotes development of critical thinking. Working with the platform helps students analyze and structure information and form sound clinical conclusions.
In the 2025-2026 academic year, it is planned to introduce the Physiopedia AI Assistant. It will open up new opportunities for students’ learning and independent work.
Thanks to this strategic partnership, Sumy State University is creating a modern model for rehabilitation specialists who can respond professionally to challenges of healthcare and comply with international education standards.
