In 2019, representatives of Ukraine applied for participation in the program of advanced training in pathology for the first time with the support of the European Society of Pathology (ESP). Roman Moskalenko, SumDU Associate Professor of Pathological Anatomy Department, became one of the 23 winners (two of them are from Ukraine). The scientist got the internship opportunity for two months at the Center of advanced training of ESP in endocrine pathology focusing on thyroid and parathyroid tumors in Porto (Portugal) under the guidance of the famous Professor Manuel Sobrinio Simoes. The results were announced at the General Assembly of the European Society of Pathology in Nice (France).

The ESP prepared the education support program in specialized spheres, because the great advances have been made in desease studies with the use of accomplished diagnostic techniques in recent decades. Therefore, a wide range of diseases can be treated with personalized therapy. This training program should help young pathologists to gain the profound experience in the best training centers across Europe. The winners will be offered a scholarship, named after Professor Alfonso Giordano, who initiated the establishment of the ESP, to support this program.
