On February 10th, Ravil Safiullin, the Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (NOC of Ukraine), the President of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation (UAF) visited Sumy State University.
The participants of the meeting with the university management discussed the prospects of cooperation between UAF and SumDU, which is the base of the Eastern Center for Olympic Training of Athletes, as well as the Palace of students’ sports with the status of the Olympic training base for athletes of Ukraine.
Ravil Safiullin's visit was combined with the hosting of the Ukrainian Athletics Championship in Sumy participated by more than 40 students of SumDU.
During his visit to Sumy State University, Ravil Safiullin got acquainted with the work of the Palace of students’ sports, the beach volleyball center, the sports medicine center. During the visit to the center of sports medicine, which operates on the base of the University Hospital, the issue of medical support of athletes - members of the national team of Ukraine was discussed.
For reference. At Sumy State University, about 60 student-athletes are engaged in athletics on a permanent professional basis. The national team of Ukraine consists of 15 students of SumDU, 10 athletes are members of the youth national team, and 10 students – the members of the Olympic Training Center. Among the best – the winners of international competitions and the winners of the national championships: Ihor Musiienko (shot put), running disciplines - Yevhen Hutsol, Oleksii Pozdniakov, Mariia Mykolenko, Eduard Zabuzhenko, Stanislav Kovalenko and Bohdana Semenova, Hanna Nelepa, Anastasia Osokina, Artem Alfimov, Oleksandr Pohorilko, Bohdan Yehorov, Yaroslav Demchenko, and others.
