Sumy State University is 75 years old since its foundation. On 12 October 2023, the anniversary forum gathered scientific and pedagogical workers, representatives of administrative management, student self-government, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, regional authorities, people’s deputies, members of the Supervisory Board. Also, there were veterans who developed and contributed to the SumDU success. Colleagues from partner institutions joined too.
The participants exchanged opinions on the university place, mission and prospects in the development of Ukrainian higher education, city, and region.
Volodymyr ARTIUKH (head of the Sumy Military Administration) noted the presence of multidisciplinary specialties, high knowledge and skill levels, strong academic and research teams. “During six months of my leadership, I was convinced that Sumy State University is the research foundation of the region development. It enables Sumy Oblast to increase production and modern technologies,” – emphasized Volodymyr ARTIUKH.
On behalf of Volodymyr ZELENSKYI (the President of Ukraine), sir ARTIUKH read the greeting to the university staff: “I sincerely congratulate all members and graduates of Sumy State University on the 75th anniversary. During its existence, the university trained and graduated many specialists who became famous experts. Today, the university is one of the leaders among higher education institutions of Ukraine in terms of research funding. I want to thank for your skills, dedication and insistence in the new military realities. Let your bold plans and ideas come true. I wish you all peace, good health, inexhaustible energy and significant achievements in the name of our Victory”.
“In a country with Sumy State University, we will definitely win and ensure the dynamic development of the Ukrainian society. We will reach fame among the most progressive European countries!” – emphasized Vasyl KREMEN (the President of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Sumy State University).
Characterizing the university, he noted several components: high technology, meeting the practical needs of various industries, innovativeness, effective management.
“Stable values that have been formed over many years, system management and love for native alma mater are the success secret of Sumy State University”, – said the rector Vasyl KARPUSHA. He noted the great contribution to the university development by his predecessors Ihor KOVALOV and Anatolii VASILIEV.
“I am confident that Sumy State University will continue to be an educational outpost not only in the Northeast, but also in Ukraine as a whole,” – said Vasyl KARPUSHA.
The rector thanked employees and students for their hard and responsible work aimed at ensuring the university success. He underlined that the main priority is further systemic development.
Yulia HRYSHINA (people's deputy of Ukraine, expert on education and science) told that she visited Sumy State University for the first time in the last year spring. She was pleasantly surprised by the organization of university activities in wartime near the border:
“All of Ukraine knows Sumy State University. He takes high positions in international and all-Ukrainian rankings. You have something to be proud of. And I see that the secret to your success is the people who work at the university and the leadership that helps these people move forward”.
“We can characterize our team as agents of change, leaders of transformations. And this is so, because working at our university is quite difficult. We constantly set ourselves new tasks, raise the bar of our goals. I express my gratitude to all colleagues, veterans and students. I believe in the SumDU future!”, said Anatolii VASYLIEV (Honorary Rector, Chairman of the University Academic Council).
Denys KURBATOV (Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine) spoke about what practices and experience of Sumy State University should be scaled up at the all-Ukrainian level. As a graduate and until recently the Research Department head, he drew attention to the development of the scientific component at Sumy State University. Besides, innovative information technologies are improved. “This is exactly what makes Sumy State University one of the leaders of higher education and science in Ukraine,” – concluded Denys KURBATOV.
For their conscientious work and achievements in university development, SumDU representatives received honorary degrees from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Sumy State University and the Sumy Regional Council.
Is it a lot or a little – 75 step years? Having celebrated three quarters of a century, Sumy State University is stepping forward!
