The SumDU basketball team became the bronze medalist of the 3x3 World Basketball Championship among universities. The competition took place in the city of Doha (Qatar). 12 male and female teams competed.

In the opening match, our athletes defeated students from Kenya. The game ended with a 21:10 score in favor of Yaroslav Kovalev’s team. Then, the SumyDU team met with rivals from Chile and won with a 21:9 score. That allowed our athletes to enter playoffs from the first group place.

On 12 November in the quarterfinal, Sumy defeated Melbourne (22:20), but lost to the team from Sydney in the semifinal (6:21). In the match for the third place, Yaroslav Kovalev’s wards won in a fight with students from Brazil (20:18 in overtime).

The bronze medalists of the World Championship were SumDU Medical Institute students: Maksym MYKHAILOV, Rodion KUZMIN, Ivan FILONENKO and Illia KOSHEVATSKYI. The coach was Yaroslav KOVALIOV.

The University of Sydney won the silver medals. The 2023 World Champion became the Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania).
