Sumy State University has begun to unfold sport facilities at various campus locations. The goal is to create an accessible and safe environment for students to play sports during wartime.

Sport facilities in shelters are currently available to students engaged in martial arts, strength and aesthetic sports. They have necessary sport equipment and supplies. In this way, the university makes sure that student athletes have an opportunity to increase their physical activity and prepare for important competitions in safe conditions.

Such care brings results. Even during the war, SumDU students demonstrate success in the most prestigious competitions.

Among significant victories of Ukraine, Europe and the world over the past two years are:

  • Dmytro Hrushchak’s bronze medal in biathlon at the World Winter Universiade (2023);
  • All-Ukrainian Winter Universiade in cross-country skiing: the 1st team place among Ukrainian universities in 2023 and the 2nd team place in 2024;
  • All-Ukrainian Summer Universiade in 21 sports: the 2nd team place among Ukrainian universities (for two years);
  • 3x3 basketball: European Championship (silver), World Championship (bronze);
  • European Student Judo Championship: the 1st place among Ukrainian universities.

Thanks to a strong sport infrastructure, development of about 40 sports and active cooperation with children and youth’s sport schools, the number of athletes is increasing every year. Over the past two years, the number of students actively involved in sport clubs and teams has increased by almost 50% and now includes almost five hundred athletes. The 2024 admission campaign is a confirmation that talented people choose Sumy State University to obtain higher education and continue their sports career.
