On September 4-5, 2024, Alla Krasulia, Head of the International Affairs Department at Sumy State University, participated in the two-day informational event "Grant Opportunities of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine and Support Instruments within the Horizon Europe Program," which took place in Odesa.

The first day of the event was dedicated to discussing the aspects and prospects of Ukrainian researchers' participation in competitive projects funded by the National Research Foundation of Ukraine (NRFU) and the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation framework program. During the event, the Executive Director of the NRFU, Olga Polotska, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Taisia Abozina, and academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Borys Burkynskyi, welcomed the participants and expressed their support for the continuation of scientific work despite the current challenges.

On the second day, participants received detailed information about the NRFU’s operations, its open science strategy, and the organizational support for its grant competitions. Additionally, the opportunities provided by the Horizon Europe program, including legal and financial participation aspects, were thoroughly presented. Specialists also conducted a workshop on how to navigate the funding and tenders portal, enabling attendees to search for open calls based on various program directions and components.

The event further explored individual components of the Horizon Europe Program, including the European Research Council, Horizon Europe Missions, and the New European Bauhaus initiative. At the end of the day, participants engaged in an active Q&A session, followed by networking opportunities.

This event provided a crucial platform for representatives from higher education institutions, research organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises, government bodies, and civil society organizations to establish connections and share experiences. In total, around 150 participants attended both in-person and online.

Alla Krasulia emphasized the importance of such events for expanding opportunities for Ukrainian researchers in international projects. She also highlighted that Sumy State University's involvement in the Horizon Europe Program is a significant step in integrating the university into the European research space.
