On 1 October 2024 (Day of Ukrainian Defenders), the Alley of Fallen Hero Glory was opened at SumDU. It is dedicated to soldiers of the 155th battalion and the Basy territorial defense unit.

The alley was arranged at the SumDU Medical Institute. After the alley consecration, victim relatives received “Crosses of Freedom” from church members.

Vasyl KARPUSHA (SumDU rector), Andrii LOBODA (head of the Medical Institute), Anatolii VASYLIEV, military personnel, comrades and relatives of the fallen heroes took part in the event.

In his speech, Vasyl KARPUSHA emphasized that the Alley of Glory is a reminder of the high price paid by Ukrainians for freedom: “This Alley symbolizes the indomitable spirit and indelible memory of soldiers who died defending independence and territorial integrity of our state. We will remember names of each hero. They are our guardian angels who gave their lives for the sake of Ukraine and each of us”.

“The alley location was not chosen by chance. Nearby is a building where students learn the art of saving lives while our defenders sacrifice their lives and health for our peaceful future. There are no words that would fully express our feelings of sincere, boundless gratitude and respect. May God protect our defenders, return home alive and healthy to their relatives and friends. May Victory come as soon as possible and Ukraine will never know war again”, – said Vasyl KARPUSHA.

This event confirmed that heroes do not die. Their names will live forever in the hearts of descendants and in the history of our country.
