On 20 October 2024, SumDU welcomed a delegation from the Embassy of the French Republic in Ukraine.

Rector Vasyl KARPUSHA and deputy head of the International Cooperation Department Tetiana MAIBORODA welcomed the distinguished guests. They were Olivier JACOT (counselor for culture and cooperation, director of the French Institute in Ukraine), François COTTEL (political counselor) and Baltis MEYANEC (chief of staff to the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs).

This visit took place against the war backdrop. The French delegation had an opportunity to see the consequences of a Russian air strike that partially destroyed one of the university buildings. Despite these challenges, SumDU continues to be an important scientific and educational center that does not stop its development even in the most difficult times.

The meeting was focused on discussing prospects for academic mobility between SumDU and French universities. They discussed possibilities of implementing exchange programs that would allow students and teachers of the Ukrainian university to gain experience in France. In particular, French diplomats expressed interest in developing new bilateral projects aimed at strengthening educational ties.

Among important topics of the meeting were joint research projects that bring together scientists from both countries. The parties emphasized relevance of cooperation in technical and medical research. Joint activities open up new ways to share knowledge and experience, which is extremely important for addressing current challenges. It will also facilitate the integration of Ukrainian scientists into global academic environment.

Particular attention was paid to the French study by students of SumDU. The parties discussed possibilities of involving students in international language programs, courses and internships in France. It will not only contribute to their professional growth but also create additional opportunities for cultural exchange between the countries. French language courses are also planned with support of French educational institutions.

The French visit to SumDU is an important event for the border university. It opens up new prospects for students and lecturers, expands partnerships and strengthens the university international image. Even in difficult times, educational ties can be strong and fruitful.
