On 21 November 2024, Times Higher Education (one of the most influential ranking agencies in the world) published the first edition of a new university ranking dedicated to interdisciplinary research.

SumDU was ranked among the world top 300 universities in THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025. It topped the ranking table of domestic higher education institutions, demonstrating a high level of commitment to interdisciplinary research.

In total, over 1,000 universities submitted data to the Times Higher Education. 749 institutions from 92 countries were ranked.

26 Ukrainian institutions applied for ranking. The final table includes 11 universities from Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Lviv, Sumy, Uzhhorod and Kharkiv.

The methodology of the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025 includes 11 performance indicators to assess institutions in three key areas. Each of them represents a stage of the research project life cycle: input (funding), process (mechanisms for measuring success, administrative support and promotion, quality of the relevant material and technical base), output (publications, research quality, reputation).
