The event, which took place on 10 December 2024 at the SumDU Congress Center, was dedicated to the International Human Rights Day. It has been officially celebrated for almost 75 years.
The forum, organized by the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, brought together a distinguished group of participants.
Dmytro LUBYNETS (Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights) greeted everybody in a video message. Other speakers were Volodymyr ARTYUKH (head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration), Tetiana SKRYPKA and Kira RUDYK (members of the Verkhovna Rada), Vasyl LUTSYK (head of the National Social Service of Ukraine). There were also representatives of law enforcement agencies, human rights organizations, and humanitarian entities. Vasyl KARPUSHA (SumDU rector) was among those present at the important event.
The participants discussed topical issues of protecting rights and freedoms of Sumy Oblast residents within the difficult security situation. This includes organizing evacuation from war zones, creating appropriate conditions for internally displaced persons, ensuring local defense, reconstructing protective objects, etc.
Thousands of Ukrainian civilians have been killed, over 70,000 are missing. More than 1.5 million Ukrainian children live under temporary occupation, and hundreds of thousands have been deported to Russia. Ukraine buries children almost every day. Therefore, the forum participants called on all international organizations and the world to fight for rights of Ukrainians.
