Representatives of France became the first foreign delegation to visit SumDU in 2025.

The meeting took place as part of the visit of an official French delegation to Sumy. It was headed by Serge GRUARD (mayor of Orleans). The guests were greeted by vice-rector Ivan KOZII and head of the International Cooperation Department Alla KRASULIA.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Sumy City Military Administration, executive authorities, the Department of Finance, Economics and Investments of the Sumy City Council, as well as Sumy higher education institutions. The participants presented the scientific and educational potential of the region to the guests. They demonstrated achievements in science and education, which contributes to strengthening international cooperation and new joint projects.

Alla KRASULIA presented the SumDU experience to the guests, emphasizing key aspects of institution activities. The focus was on the university mission and vision, which concens quality education, research and innovation. Particular attention was paid to the university associate membership in a number of European university alliances. It deals with NEOLAiA, FilmEU, Unite! and E³UDRES². Also, SumDU is a co-founder of the Alliance of Ukrainian Universities.

Alla KRASULIA noted despite the wartime challenges, SumDU is actively integrating into the global academic community. The university demonstrates high results in international rankings such as Times Higher Education, QS and Webometrics. “These achievements reflect our commitment to quality, collaboration and global impact. It emphasizes the importance of SumDU partnership with international organizations and universities. This promotes development of educational and scientific environment as well as strengthens the influence of Ukrainian science at the global level,” – she said.

The discussion focused on establishing ties in the educational and scientific sphere between Sumy and Orleans. Members of the French delegation expressed their desire to cooperate with Sumy State University and implement joint projects. Serge GRUARD noted Ukrainian higher education is a sign of resilience, steadfastness and dedication. He also expressed his solidarity and support for the entire Ukrainian people and his hope that the joint efforts of Ukraine and international partners will lead our country to victory and a just peace.

“We are impressed by your courage and determination. We look forward to developing strong and friendly ties with your wonderful university,” – wrote Serge GRUARD in the SumDU Book of Honorary Guests after a constructive meeting and exchange of views on further partnership.
