On 23-24 January 2025, with the support of UNDP in Ukraine (Community Security and Social Cohesion), a regional forum “Veteran Community as a Driving Force for Recovery and a Change Resource” was held.

The purpose was to promote constructive interaction between the veteran community, their family members, authorities, the public and business. The forum was aimed at creating conditions to meet the veteran needs, to remove barriers that may hinder their participation in planning and completing local recovery.

SumDU actively joined the event as a partner organization through the Center for Veteran Development. The forum was moderated by Andriana KOSTENKO (head of the Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-Cultural Technologies).

The participants discussed urgent issues:

  • State veteran policy: interaction of the veteran community with authorities;
  • Services and facilities for veterans: meeting their needs, adaptation in workplace, employment, psychosocial support.
  • Public initiatives: motivating veterans and their families to participate in community recovery.
  • Community mobilization: tools for interaction and involvement of the veteran community based on real examples and achievements.
  • Indicators of the veteran community’s well-being: assessing the level of needs and their integration into recovery processes.

The forum became a platform for constructive dialogue between representatives of government, the public, business and veterans. SumDU participation emphasizes the importance of cooperation with various social groups aimed at developing communities and meeting the needs of veterans.

SumDU keeps supporting the veteran community through educational, social and psychological initiatives to restore and develop the region.
