SumDU achieved a large-scale success during the XXII World Winter Universiade. It took place in Turin (Italy) on 13-23 January 2025.

The triumph was achieved thanks to performance of students majoring in Physical Culture and Sports of the Medical Institute. They are biathletes Bohdan BORKOVSKYI and Serhii SUPRUN.

Bohdan BORKOVSKYI won two gold medals in biathlon (the short individual and pursuit races), and a bronze medal in sprint. Serhii SUPRUN became the Universiade champion in the single mixed relay together with Oleksandra MERKUSHYNA, a student of the Kharkiv State Academy of Physical Culture. He also won silver in the pursuit race.

As a result, the SumDU representatives won five medals:

  • Three gold medals;
  • One silver medal;
  • One bronze medal.

This is not only a record result for the university, but also a remarkable achievement among Ukrainian universities. In terms of the number and quality of the awards, SumDU topped the ranking of Ukrainian universities whose representatives won awards at the World Universiade for the first time.

In addition, Bohdan BORKOVSKYI entered the TOP 10 multi-medalist students of the Turin 2025 FISU World University Winter Games. Serhii SUPRUN took a place in the TOP 50.

SumDU is proud of its students! We sincerely congratulate our athletes and wish them new achievements!
