According to the updated data of the Web of Universities Ranking (Webometrics), SumDU is second among higher education institutions in Ukraine after Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

In the Transparent Ranking sub-rating, which determines the best universities by the number of citations in Google Scholar, SumDU is third among Ukrainian institutions (behind Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute).

The international Webometrics ranking examines performance of over 31,000 universities from over 200 countries. The latest ranking version includes about 300 Ukrainian institutions.
