On 20 February 2025, the community of SumDU, together with the whole Ukraine, paid tribute to the Heavenly Hundred (the heroes who died in February 2014 during shootings on Independence Square in Kyiv). They became a symbol of struggle of the Ukrainian people for European future and democratic values.

Students and staff of SumDU, together with representatives of local authorities and the public, laid flowers at the monument to the Heavenly Hundred Heroes in Sumy. They observed a mournful minute of silence to honor the memory of courageous and freedom-loving Ukrainians who gave their lives for freedom and independence of Ukraine.

Future journalists, students of the SumDU Mechanical Engineering College, talked to the event participants: representatives of the Sumy City Council, teachers and students of SumDU. All respondents expressed their belief that it is the duty of current and future generations to remember and honor the Heavenly Hundred Heroes and all the Heroes who fought for truth, for democracy, for the right to live in a free country at different times. Now, our heroes continue this fight during the Russian aggression.

This year’s commemorative events are being held under the slogan: “Heroes of the first victory in the ongoing battle”. It is in line with the key thesis of the previous two years, with which the Heavenly Hundred Heroes Day was celebrated: “The Heavenly Hundred are the first Heroes of the Russian-Ukrainian War”.
