On 15 March 2025, the SumDU Congress Center hosted the Open Door Day “EXPO SumDU: Exhibition of Specialties”. The event brought together prospective students. They had an opportunity to get acquainted with the university’s educational opportunities, take part in a thematic quest and receive symbolic gifts.

Educational quest: find your specialty.

Participants received cards with encrypted specialties and went in search of the appropriate locations. At each station, they received seals from faculties and institutes. For completing the route successfully, they won exclusive merchandise from SumDU.

Yurii MERZLIAKOV (head of the SumDU Center for Pre-University Education and Career Guidance) shared what was the highlight of this day:

“As always, we have a new and unusual format. EXPO is the most famous international exhibition that demonstrates various inventions, technologies, etc. In our country, it is an exhibition of specialties. Today, we are presenting both the existing specialties at the university and the new ones that will appear this year. We have prepared presentations from each faculty and institute, photo zones, entertainment. Registration for the NMT is also open today”.

Each university department has prepared its own interactive location:

• BiEM Institute: an atlas of professions, debunking myths about economics, a mini-marketplace;
• Law Institute: archaeological zone, forensic examination;
• Medical Institute: an opportunity to try yourself as a doctor – to measure blood pressure, treat teeth, provide first aid, study the skeleton anatomy;
• ElIT Faculty: demonstration of a student prototype of a prosthetic arm, a smart home, modern board printing technologies;
• IFSK Faculty: interactive games by specialty, souvenir merchandise;
• TeSET Faculty: research on nitrate content, presentation of materials and technologies.

And this is not the whole list of interesting activities and locations.

The Center for Correspondence, Distance and Evening Education also had its own location. It provided applicants with information about studying in a flexible format.

The SumDU Art Center prepared entertainment for applicants: schoolchildren and students sang and danced between quest locations.

“I am choosing something in engineering because I have an analytical mindset. I like specialties related to analytics and computers. I am still choosing between universities, but I have a good opinion of SumDU. Just the other day I read the news that it has once again taken the first place among Ukrainian universities in the ranking. It is nice to have such a powerful university in our hometown,” – said Dmytro, this year’s applicant.

Denys, an eleventh-grader, plans to enter SumDU. He loves applied sciences and is choosing an IT specialty. He came to the Open Door Day with his mother Yulia, who is helping her son make an important life choice.

“He is interested in applying to the university. He is interested in specialties, and we are trying to find the only right way to move forward. After all, his future life depends on this decision. It is very important now to make the right choice of specialty, to get quality knowledge to use it in professional development,” – noted the applicant’s mother.

The event was attended by Vasyl KARPUSHA (SumDU rector). He rector emphasized it is important for applicants to attend Open Door Days to get acquainted with the university and its specialties: “We guarantee that our information about the university and our presentations is true and honest. SumDU provides quality knowledge and great opportunities for students to develop, including through international academic mobility programs, to join research projects, and to enhance their sports or creative abilities. The university has a strong material and technical, educational, and methodological base. We improve digital infrastructure. We implement everything that is modern, popular, and interesting in our activities so that our graduates grow professionally and have a successful future”.

The EXPO SumDU Open Door Day was a great opportunity for future applicants to get to know the university’s specialties, feel the university atmosphere, and talk to representatives of institutes and faculties to determine their future professional path.
