On 24 April 2025, SumDU hosted a meeting of the Higher Education Quality Assurance Board. The participants discussed a number of topical issues, including performance of online learning, participation of students in the internal system of quality assurance, and formation of individual educational trajectories.
Yurii ZUBAN (director of the Center for E-Learning Technologies) made a presentation on the first issue.
He focused on effectiveness of the MIX learning platform, which is the main element of SumDU educational environment. According to the Cloudflare network statistics, the weekly number of requests to the platform is about 3 million, which is higher than other analyzed resources.
The Board emphasized importance of building an effective online environment, especially within the martial law and geographical distribution of students and teachers. It was decided to implement a number of methodological, technical and organizational measures to improve quality of online education. The Board identified use of online courses on the MIX platform, along with other components, as the key to implementing effective offline learning even after the end of martial law.
Olha LIUTA (head of the Center for Higher Education Quality Assurance) presented results of students’ survey on quality of educational programs.
It was emphasized that such surveys are a key element of the internal quality assurance system and a tool for implementing principles of student-centered learning. The data obtained are used to form a holistic vision of the curriculum quality.
Yuliia CHORTOK (head of the Academic Department) informed about peculiarities of forming an individual educational trajectory for SumDU students. Thus, the university creates conditions for a flexible educational route for each student.
The following moments were noted:
- Individualization of curriculum structure by including a wide range of elective courses;
- Increase in the number of humanitarian curricula: from 37 in 2021 to 52 in 2024;
- Opportunities for continuous formation of foreign language competencies due to variability in the choice of language (English, French, German) at different levels and with a subject focus;
- Interdisciplinarity: choice of disciplines from other faculties/institutes, which is implemented through formation of dynamic academic departments.
- Introduction of certified programs to acquire extra professional skills.
However, curriculum accreditation results and those of students’ survey in 2024 showed the need to improve this area. The Board decided to strengthen rights of students to choose their academic disciplines.
Also, the Quality Board provided recommendations to the Academic Board on approval of the certificate program “Digital Design and Graphics” within the curriculum “Information Technology Design” for the first (Bachelor’s) level of higher education.
