On 8 May 2025, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen LISOVYI paid a working visit to Sumy Oblast, during which he visited SumDU.

The head of the Ministry of Education and Science was accompanied by the head of the Regional State Administration Oleh HRYHOROV, the head of the Regional Council Oleksii ROMANKO, the deputy head of the Regional State Administration Oleksii DROZDENKO, and the head of the Department of Education and Science of the Regional State Administration Viktoriia HROBOVA.

Rector Vasyl KARPUSHA and vice-rector for security and economic support Oleksii MITSURA met the distinguished guests on the university campus.

During the visit, the delegation toured the SumDU buildings that were damaged by missile strikes from Russian troops. In particular, it was the Congress Center.

The guests honored memory of the victims of the Russian missile attack on 13 April 2025. They laid flowers at the mass death site.

During the meeting, issues of restoring the damaged university infrastructure and ensuring safe conditions for educational process participants were discussed. Also, further steps to strengthen the higher education sustainability were considered.

Oksen LYSOVYI expressed support for resilience, cohesion and professionalism of the SumDU team. It continues to work effectively in the face of security challenges, provides a quality education and is actively engaged in research.
