Despite wartime challenges, SumDU keeps confirming its reputation as one of the strongest sporting centers in Ukraine. In the 2024-2025 academic year, over 600 SumDU students represented the university in regional, national, and international arenas. They demonstrated not only athletic skills but also spirit strength of a frontline institution.

The statistics of sporting achievements for this academic year are impressive:

• 12 international sport masters of Ukraine;
• 115 sport masters of Ukraine;
• About 150 sport master candidates;
• 300 first-class athletes.

In total, they won:

• 252 medals at all-Ukrainian tournaments (104 gold, 86 silver, 62 bronze);
• 33 medals on the European stage (14 gold, 11 silver, 8 bronze);
• 17 medals of the world level (5 gold, 6 silver, 6 bronze).

80 students became prize-winners of international competitions. 385 students won medals at all-Ukrainian championships and Universiades.

SumDU consistently ranks high in national competitions. According to results of winter and summer Universiades, the university has been ranked second among all higher education institutions in Ukraine for the fourth year in a row. SumDU has held the first place among the largest institutions in the country for the ninth year.

Our students continue to bring glory to the university on the international stage. In particular, at the 2024 European Student Games in Hungary, SumDU judokas won the first place in their discipline. At the 2025 World Winter Universiade in Turin, the university team took the first place among Ukrainian universities in the overall team standings.

This summer, our student judokas and track and field athletes will compete as part of the Ukrainian national team at the 2025 World Summer Universiade in Germany. Together with them, SumDU basketball players plan to conquer the sport arenas of Europe.

It is particularly symbolic that these victories are being achieved right now, when sport is not only a competition but also a powerful form of civic resilience, unity, and an example for the youth of Sumy Oblast. These are not just medals – they are a victory over uncertainty and constant wartime threats.

These achievements are not just an opportunity to make a worldwide name. Each victory of our athletes is an invitation for the Sumy youth to join a strong university community that nurtures champions even in the most difficult times.
