Sumy State University has received humanitarian aid from its partner, Örebro University , (Kingdom of Sweden): a shipment of office furniture that arrived on our campus on July 28, 2025.

This act of solidarity is yet another powerful testament to the support that the international academic community continues to extend to SumDU in this challenging time for Ukraine. The donated furniture including desks, chairs, and other office equipment will be used to restore educational and administrative facilities damaged in the missile attack of April 13, 2025. In particular, some of the furniture will be installed in the International Affairs Department, which was completely destroyed, as well as in classrooms located in bomb shelters, reading halls of the library, and other spaces that help ensure the continuity of the educational process.

Sumy State University sincerely thanks the leadership of Örebro University, the teams of international cooperation and logistics, as well as the students and staff who contributed to making this initiative possible. This support carries not only practical value, but also deep symbolic meaning, it reinforces the spirit of academic unity, offers moral encouragement, and inspires our continued recovery.

"I would like to thank the academic community and, in particular, Örebro University for supporting our institution after the difficult trials caused by the missile attack. Today we are receiving office furniture, which is very important for us, as a significant amount of equipment was destroyed. Most notably, the International Office, which was directly hit by the missile, was completely destroyed," said Vasyl KARPUSHA, Rector of SumDU.

Sumy State University greatly values its partnership with Örebro University and looks forward to further cooperation in education, research, and humanitarian engagement. A special word of gratitude goes to Yurii ORZIKH, a native of Ukraine and legal scholar at Örebro University, who played a key role in organizing the transportation of the donated furniture to SumDU. "I am deeply grateful to Örebro University for its willingness to support Ukraine during this tragic period in our history," said Yurii Orzikh.

Words of support were also shared by Ida ANDERSSON-NORRIE, Strategist for Internationalisation at Örebro University: “Our thoughts are with our colleagues at Sumy State University – students, faculty, and staff – who have been affected by the attack and the war. We stand with them and continue working together for education and academic freedom"

As the university rebuilds, every expression of solidarity and every form of support from international partners strengthens our resilience and belief in the future. Collaboration with such reliable allies as Örebro University – the lead institution of the NEOLAIA European University Alliance, of which SumDU is an associate partner, highlights SumDU’s active integration into the global academic community.

Together, we are not only restoring educational infrastructure, we are reaffirming the ability of Ukrainian universities to uphold their European path even in times of war.

Thank you for standing with SumDU. Together, we are restoring education, hope, and the future!
