Every year on 21 November, Ukraine celebrates Dignity and Freedom Day. It is a day that has become a symbol of courage, strength of spirit and pursuit of justice. This is a date that unites two revolutions: the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity when Ukrainians once again proved that freedom and human dignity are the highest values of our people.

This year’s slogan for such a significant day is: “Dignity and Freedom Day – every day, without days off.” For the university community of SumDU, as well as for the entire country, this phrase has a special meaning. We honor those who were not afraid to raise their voices for the right to be free. Those who stood on Maidans across the country. Those who gave their lives so that Ukraine remained a democratic, independent and European state. And we do this not only on 21 November – but every day. And most importantly, we keep fighting and carrying ideas that our people stand for. Despite the constant trials of war, we support the country and fulfill our mission: to form an educated and strong generation.

Today, when the Ukrainian people are once again defending their land in the war against the Russian aggressor, the words “dignity” and “freedom” take on an even deeper meaning. They are in the daily courage of our defenders. In the indomitability of doctors, volunteers, teachers, scientists. In the resilience of students who study despite the challenges of wartime.

Dignity is about inner strength. Freedom is about responsibility. Together, they form the basis of our national identity.

SumDU is proud of its students, graduates, employees, and partners who work every day for the future of Ukraine. We are grateful to all who defend our freedom on the front lines and to all who support the rear, preserving the educational, scientific and humanitarian fronts.

On this day, we bow our heads to memory of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes and all who gave their lives for our state. Their sacrifice will forever remain in the heart of every Ukrainian.

May our unity and mutual support help us to preserve our freedom and win. May dignity be the light that leads us forward, despite all trials.
