Stephen GETHINS and Jordan MEAD (representatives of the British Parliament) visited Sumy State University.
The guests inspected the SumDU infrastructure damaged by rocket strikes, the restoration of which is important to preserve the educational and scientific potential of Sumy and Ukraine.
With participation of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, the parties discussed further directions of international cooperation in wartime, particularly in education and science.
Vasyl KARPUSHA (SumDU rector) thanked the British people for their unwavering solidarity with Ukraine and systematic support for Ukrainian institutions, singling out the Twinning Initiative program.
“We greatly appreciate assistance that the UK provides to Ukraine and Ukrainian universities. Special thanks go to our sister university, the University of Liverpool. Our partnership is an example of effective international cooperation based on shared values and mutual support”, – emphasized Vasyl KARPUSHA.
Thanks to its cooperation with the University of Liverpool, SumDU has received significant support for stable institution work: more than 100 pieces of computer equipment, modern laboratory devices, new additions to library collections. The total amount of financial support from British partners has already reached about £400,000.
Active international activities of SumDU are confirmed by global rankings. For several years in a row, the university has ranked first among Ukrainian institutions in the British Times Higher Education ranking.
Representatives of the British Parliament expressed their support for the SumDU team, which demonstrates high performance in scientific and educational activities despite difficult conditions in the border region.
