Sumy State University ranks second among Ukrainian institutions in the January 2026 edition of the international Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics). It follows Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
The current edition of Webometrics 2026 evaluates over 32,000 higher education institutions from more than 200 countries worldwide. Ukraine has 303 universities included in the ranking, 46 of which are among the top 5,000 institutions in the world.
The ranking methodology is based on open webometric and bibliometric indicators that comprehensively reflect the global academic influence and online presence of a university. Data is collected from sources such as Majestic, OpenAlex, and Scimago. Webometric data was analyzed at the year beginning, while bibliometric indicators cover the period from 2020 to 2024 for the “Excellence” indicator and from 2021 to 2025 for the “Openness” indicator.
The Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics) is one of the first international university rankings, published twice a year since 2004.
