From February 11 to 13, the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen–Nuremberg (Germany) hosted the second interim management meeting of the international Erasmus+ project DigiUni: Digital University – Open Ukrainian Initiative. Sumy State University was represented at the consortium discussions by Vice-Rector for Research and Academic Affairs, Ivan KOZII, and Director of the E-Learning Technologies Center, Yurii ZUBAN.
The meeting brought together project partners from Ukraine and the European Union to review progress at the project’s midpoint, align forthcoming activities, coordinate work package responsibilities, and assess the development trajectory of DigiPlatform – the project’s core digital infrastructure.
Participants were welcomed by Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykola TROFYMENKO, who emphasized the project’s strategic importance for the national higher education system. In his address, he underscored the role of a modern digital ecosystem in ensuring continuity of learning under wartime conditions while simultaneously laying the groundwork for long-term recovery and modernization. He also highlighted that initiatives of this scale accelerate the integration of Ukrainian universities into the European Higher Education Area.
Project coordinator Kseniya SMYRNOVA, Vice-Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, presented an overview of DigiUni’s current status, key achievements, and strategic priorities for the next phase. Representing the host institution, Prof. Dr. Kathrin MÖSLEIN, Vice President of Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen–Nuremberg, stressed the significance of international academic collaboration in fostering resilient digital learning environments and supporting Ukrainian higher education institutions.
The next stages of DigiUni will focus on refining management decisions, addressing technical and methodological aspects of DigiPlatform, and strengthening coordination among consortium partners. The project envisions developing more than 80 digital courses, at least 20 of which will incorporate virtual and/or augmented reality technologies or remote laboratory solutions.
Sumy State University’s engagement in DigiUni reflects its broader institutional commitment to digital transformation and international cooperation. Collaboration within the consortium contributes to the adoption of innovative digital solutions, enhances the quality of educational content, and reinforces the presence of Ukrainian universities within the European academic landscape.
