On 14 April 2026, a decisive event took place at SumDU: rector election. According to results of a secret ballot, Vasyl KARPUSHA, who has led the institution for the past five years, won a convincing victory.

According to the final protocol of the election commission, the votes were distributed as follows:

Total number of voters – 1,267 people.

Among them, 1,064 people participated in the voting.

Votes for Vasyl KARPUSHA – 871 (68.75% of the total number of voters).

Votes for Serhii LUKASH – 101 (7.97% of the total number of voters).

Did not support any candidate – 84 (6.63% of the total number of voters).

Invalid ballots – 8.

Having received the overwhelming support of voters, Vasyl KARPUSHA will continue to lead the university for the next term.

The election process was conducted in accordance with current legislation of Ukraine, regulations of the Ministry of Education and Science, and the University Charter.

“The election was marked by a high level of organization and complete transparency. Every stage (from opening of ballot stations to counting of votes) took place in presence of official observers. It ensured equal opportunities for candidates and objectivity of the results,” – emphasized the commission.

The following groups participated in the voting:

• Research, research-teaching, and teaching staff;
• Elected representatives from among other full-time university employees;
• Elected student representatives.

About the newly elected rector

Vasyl Danylovych KARPUSHA has dedicated over 30 years to working at the university, rising through the ranks from lecturer to first vice rector and rector (since 2021). He is PhD in Physics and Mathematics and has the honorary title of “Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine”.

Under his leadership, the university has strengthened its leading position in domestic and international spheres (education and science).
